Ballet music originated in the Renaissance as a simple backdrop for court dances—regular melodies designed to guide the nobles’ steps. Everything changed in the nineteenth century: Tchaikovsky elevated the genre with Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, writing symphonic-scale scores that stand on their own even without choreography. In the twentieth century Prokof’ev pushed rhythm and orchestration even further with Romeo and Juliet. What began as mere accompaniment thus became a full-fledged concert protagonist.
In this section you’ll find every ballet composition in our catalogue, including the works mentioned above and others, such as Balletcore Classical Music and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
