A progressive jazz tribute to the poetry of Sergio Endrigo, coming out on Friday 6th June
“Caro Endrigo” traces its origins to the concert of the same name that Bari native Dario Skèpisi performed at Teatro Kismet on 2 October 2021 during the international Time Zones festival. That evening, the “barisiliano” singer-songwriter wove together songs, verses and anecdotes dedicated to the unforgettable Istrian troubadour, sparking a recording project that now takes shape in this single.
The track opens with an intimate whistle—almost a childhood call—that soon turns into a frenetic rhythm. Strings, piano, electric guitars and keyboards merge in a crescendo that bursts into vibrant progressive textures without abandoning the jazz elegance typical of Skèpisi. The result is a visceral counterpoint that honours Endrigo while reinventing his musical imagery with surprising freshness.
“Brazil, poetry, a respect for words and for the intensity of melody—these have always bound me to Sergio Endrigo. ‘Caro Endrigo’ is a musical letter that gathers the emotions, quotations and atmospheres his music has kindled in me.” — Dario Skèpisi
For this tribute, Skèpisi tapped some of Italy’s finest musicians: Agostino Marangolo on drums, Poldo Sebastiani at the bass, Nando Di Modugno on guitars, Francesco Schepisi on piano and keys, and Davide Viterbo layering in the strings to complete the sonic palette.
“Caro Endrigo” is only the first step; the official video is coming soon, the prelude to a full album devoted to Sergio Endrigo’s poetic universe. The project promises to blend jazz finesse, singer-songwriter sensitivity and that touch of carioca saudade that has always distinguished Skèpisi’s music.
Born in Bari in 1962, Dario Skèpisi is one of the most original singer-songwriters and musicians on the Apulian scene. He had the intuition to fuse unpublished lyrics in the Bari dialect with bossa-nova harmonies and warm carioca sounds, forging an unmistakable artistic identity. This experimentation first took shape in the album Musicanima (Helikonia/Egea, 2010) and continued in subsequent projects in the same vein. He has collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as Jim Porto, Roberto Bastos, José Ferreira, Gilson Silveira, Sergio Pereira, Fabrizio Bosso, Daniele Scannapieco and Rodolfo Maltese. Over the years he has received several awards for promoting cultural cooperation between Italy and Brazil. With the project Paradossalmente (2021) he solidified his stylistic signature, poised between poetic introspection and musical exploration. Today, with “Caro Endrigo,” he continues his artistic journey and his homage to the great Italian singer-songwriters.
