Latin jazz has been blending Afro-Cuban and Caribbean rhythms with jazz improvisation since the early twentieth century, when Jelly Roll Morton spoke of the “Spanish tinge” as an indispensable ingredient in the New Orleans sound. From W. C. Handy’s habanera inflections to the Afro-Cuban fireworks of Dizzy Gillespie and Chano Pozo, and on to Jobim’s bossa nova, this current has kept jazz fresh while bringing it onto the dance floor. In our section you’ll find the compilation Latin Jazz (Vinyl) with Stan Getz, Willie Bobo and Mongo Santamaria, together with Jazz Goes Latin! Bossa Nova and Jazz Samba Rhythms, perfect for letting that Latin pulse wash over you.
